Albertsons announced on October 16, 2026, that it has added a new director to its board, according to Grocery Dive. The appointment marks the third board expansion for the grocery company within five weeks. The expansion has increased the total size of the board from 10 members in September 2026 to 15 members. [1]

Grocery Dive reported that the new appointee, Singh, brings over 40 years of global operational, financial, and strategic leadership experience to the board. Singh is scheduled to retire from Levi Strauss on November 30, 2026. He currently oversees the finance division, information security, investor relations, and the transformation office at Levi Strauss, alongside strategic sourcing, real estate, franchise expansion, talent hubs, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. Albertsons is the second largest supermarket operator in the United States, operating more than 2,200 stores under regional banners including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, and Jewel-Osco. The company managed 2,270 retail locations and 1,728 in-store pharmacies as of early 2025. Safeway primarily operates supermarket locations with specialty departments in the Western United States and the Mid-Atlantic region. [3][4]

The corporate leadership adjustments follow operational challenges within the company. As FTMQ Food reported earlier, Albertsons recorded its third consecutive quarter of declining identical sales growth in October 2026, despite generating over 80 billion dollars in net sales in fiscal 2024. Chief executive leadership previously indicated that cost cutting, potential layoffs, price reductions, and targeted store closures are being considered to streamline operations and raise store traffic.
