Archer Daniels Midland executives are laying the foundation for precision fermentation to drive the company's next phase of growth, Food Business News reported. Juan Luciano, the chief executive officer of ADM, stated during a third-quarter earnings conference call on November 3 that the combination of biology and technology will drive food innovation at scale for decades. [1]

Luciano identified protein as a prime example of potential for the technology, according to Food Business News. The chief executive officer noted that global demand for protein is currently outpacing traditional supply lines. [1]

The strategy follows ADM's previous identification of natural colors as a long-term growth pathway expected to generate $80 million to $100 million in annual operating profit, Food Business News reported. [1]

As FTMQ Food reported earlier, regulatory and scale-up infrastructure for precision fermentation is accelerating. The United States Food and Drug Administration issued a no-questions letter on October 28, 2026, for animal-free casein from Those Vegan Cowboys and Formo. Additionally, biomanufacturing firm Primient plans to open its iPROOF scale-up facility in Decatur, Illinois, in May with fermenters reaching 10,000 liters. [2][3]
