Close to two-thirds of Americans support regulatory policies targeting chemicals and additives in food, Food Dive reported on October 29, 2026. The findings come from a survey conducted by the University of Pennsylvania. [1]
The survey revealed that approximately one-quarter of Americans identify as supporters of the Make America Healthy Again movement. Food Dive reported that key food policy goals of the movement enjoy much wider approval among voters than the movement itself. [1]
A healthy diet requires essential nutrition including water, macronutrients such as protein, micronutrients such as vitamins, and adequate fibre and energy. In market economies, consumer choices direct resource allocation, with consumer spending accounting for roughly 70 percent of United States gross domestic product. [2][3]
Food Dive reported that broad bipartisan support for chemical regulations means food policy reform will likely stay on the agenda. This interest persists even as the movement faces internal divisions and Republicans prepare for potential losses in upcoming midterm elections. [1]
In short
- Nearly two-thirds of Americans favor regulations on food additives and chemicals.
- About 25 percent of Americans consider themselves supporters of the MAHA movement.
- Consumer spending represents approximately 70 percent of United States gross domestic product.
