The United States Food and Drug Administration has published its 2025 annual report for the Coordinated Outbreak Response, Evaluation, & Emergency Preparedness team, known as CORE+EP. Food Safety News, Quality Assurance & Food Safety, and Marler Blog all reported that investigative teams reviewed 69 foodborne illness incidents throughout the year. [1][2][3][5]
Food Safety Magazine and Marler Blog both reported that the FDA responded directly to 26 foodborne illness outbreaks during 2025. According to Marler Blog, the agency issued 11 public advisories, while five outbreaks with an identified food source ended without a public warning being issued. [4][5]
Food Safety News noted that the CORE Network was originally established in 2011. The FDA expanded the unit in October 2024 to include a dedicated emergency preparedness team, creating the current CORE+EP structure. [1]
