Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to seek information regarding the federal response to an ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak, Google News and ABC News reported. Warren described the government actions as a calamitous response to the largest cyclosporiasis outbreak in United States history. [1][2][3]

Google News reported that Warren expressed concern that political motives, incompetence, and corruption might be responsible for the botched public health strategy. As the head of Health and Human Services, Kennedy oversees federal agencies tasked with managing foodborne illness outbreaks and national public health advisories. [1]

The public debate follows recent major food safety actions linked to the parasite. As FTMQ Food reported earlier, Taylor Fresh Foods voluntarily recalled all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico after a cyclosporiasis outbreak sickened more than 1,600 people across the United States. That affected produce was shipped to 27 states between June 29 and July 16. [6]

Regulatory oversight has remained under scrutiny following broader federal reporting. As FTMQ Food reported earlier, the Food and Drug Administration evaluated 69 food safety incidents and responded directly to 26 foodborne illness outbreaks in 2025. The agency issued 11 public advisories during that period, while five outbreaks with identified food sources received no public warnings. [7]
