Souplantation set to return to California with Orange County restaurant in 2027
Buffet chain Souplantation will open a new location in Orange County next year, marking its return to California after closing all restaurants in 2020.

Souplantation will return to the West Coast in 2027 with a new restaurant in Orange County, California, just south of Los Angeles. Nation's Restaurant News reported that the buffet chain announced the opening on social media. [1]
The brand original opened in 1978 in San Diego, California, under Garden Fresh Corp. The chain operated under the Souplantation name in Southern California and as Sweet Tomatoes across the rest of the United States. Garden Fresh Restaurant Corporation permanently shut all 97 locations in May 2020 following temporary closures caused by government pandemic mandates, and the business filed for liquidation. [1][4]
Florida-based ST Three LLC purchased the intellectual property out of bankruptcy in 2021. The new owners revived the Sweet Tomatoes concept with a restaurant in Tucson, Arizona, in 2024, followed by a second site in Florida. [1][4]
The upcoming Orange County location will bring the original Souplantation brand name back to California, where the buffet concept originally began. [1][4]
