Chef Mark Sargeant has spoken publicly about the closures of his Kent dining venues and announced plans for a return to London, Kent Online reported. The 53-year-old culinary figure discussed the difficult commercial climate in hospitality that led to his departure from his previous business and the subsequent closure of two venues carrying his initials. [1]
Sargeant worked alongside celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay before moving from Mayfair to Folkestone, Kent Online reported. Ramsay founded his restaurant group in 1997, earning 17 Michelin stars overall, with his flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea holding three Michelin stars since 2001. [1][2]
In Folkestone, Sargeant operated several successful restaurants and pubs over a period of more than ten years, according to Kent Online. Folkestone's commercial landscape was shaped by long-term regeneration efforts, particularly around its harbour area, which was purchased by philanthropist Sir Roger de Haan in 2004 to create a leisure destination. [1][5]
Sargeant confirmed to Kent Online that he is now preparing a return to the London restaurant market following his recent setbacks in Kent. Further details on the upcoming venture have not yet been announced. [1]
