EAK Distribution, based in Casper, Wyoming, is recalling its Home Grown Green Sprouting Calabrese Broccoli Seeds, Heirloom, in eight-ounce packages due to potential contamination with Salmonella, Food Safety News reported. The seeds were distributed nationwide through Amazon.com to consumers between August 20 and September. [1]

Salmonella is a genus of Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria within the family Enterobacteriaceae. The species Salmonella enterica frequently causes infections in humans and livestock, posing significant health risks when ingested through contaminated food products. [5]

Sprouting involves germinating seeds to produce fresh greens, a culinary and agricultural practice that dates back thousands of years. A product recall serves as a safety measure by a distributor or manufacturer to remove unsafe goods from the market and mitigate legal risks or consumer harm. [3][4]
