Food safety authorities in the United Kingdom have ordered businesses to withdraw and recall imported eggs following the discovery of a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak. Food Safety News reported that testing on imported eggs identified a strain linked to 36 illnesses in England during 2026. This outbreak is distinct from other ongoing Salmonella investigations in the region. [1]

According to Food Safety News, the affected eggs originated from the Ukrainian business Yasensvit. The Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland issued the recall directive to caterers, manufacturers, and wholesalers. The regulatory request covers all dates and sizes of eggs sourced from the supplier. [1]

The genus Salmonella consists of Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria classified within the family Enterobacteriaceae. The species Salmonella enterica is subdivided into six subspecies and primary affects warm-blooded hosts, including humans and livestock. [3]

Food Safety News reported that more than 650 people have fallen sick and two people have died across three separate Salmonella outbreaks in the United Kingdom. Regulators requested the immediate trade withdrawal to prevent further contamination within the commercial food supply chain. [1]
