Yum China has nearly doubled its KCOFFEE location count across mainland China during the first nine months of 2026, World Coffee Portal reported. The value-focused coffee brand is currently moving towards a target of 5,000 stores. The expansion speed of the coffee brand is now outpacing its parent quick-service restaurant brand, KFC. [1]

The swift growth relies on a side-by-side concession model alongside existing KFC units. World Coffee Portal reported that this operational model continues to generate strong financial returns for the company. The growth trajectory could soon turn KCOFFEE into the second-largest business segment within the overall restaurant portfolio of Yum China. [1]

Yum China is a publicly traded restaurant business based in Shanghai, China, which spun off from Yum Brands in November 2016. Wikipedia records that the company employed 290,000 workers and operated 8,484 locations across more than 1,100 cities. Grokipedia reports a larger footprint, stating that the company employed over 400,000 staff members with more than 12,600 KFC locations and over 4,000 Pizza Hut outlets as of late 2025. [2][3]

The expansion comes as Yum China increases its overall network scale throughout the Chinese market. Grokipedia notes that the operator targeted between 1,600 and 1,800 net new restaurant openings during 2025 while expanding its franchise store model. [3]
