London restaurant Little Baobab is attempting to raise £50,000 to secure a permanent venue following the sudden closure of the Africa Centre in Southwark. My London reported that the award-winning restaurant, which serves authentic Senegalese cuisine and teaches young people to cook without charging fees, was forced out when the centre shut down due to financial stress. [1]
The business had operated out of the Southwark location until July. According to My London, the venue is described as the only dedicated Senegalese restaurant in London. Founder and owner Khadim Mane is now seeking funding to establish a new long-term home for the business. [1]
Since leaving its former base, the restaurant has relied on alternative revenue streams to maintain operations. My London reported that the business is currently generating income through private catering events, temporary kitchen takeovers, and monthly events called Teranga nights located in Lower Clapton.
