New York City lost 30,000 private sector jobs over two months, according to a report released by City Comptroller Mark Levine. The city registered a private sector job loss of 7,400 in August and a decline of 23,000 in September. The New York Post reported that finance and tourism led the overall private sector declines. The leisure and hospitality sector experienced notable losses despite a relatively strong tourism season. Levine stated that leisure and hospitality employment fell by 7,700 positions in September alone. Over the past year, employment in the sector dropped by 17,000 jobs. [1]

The job losses highlight ongoing economic challenges for local business operators across the city. Comptroller Levine described the employment figures as a concerning trend for the municipality. [1]
