DoorDash has agreed to acquire grocery technology company Instacart in a transaction valued at roughly 17 billion dollars. Grocery Dive reported that the agreement was announced on October 29, 2026. The acquisition brings together two prominent delivery networks as they seek to scale operations against major e-commerce competitors such as Amazon and Walmart. [1]

The transaction follows years of industry speculation regarding potential takeover bids for Instacart by either DoorDash or Uber, according to Grocery Dive. Yahoo Finance also covered the acquisition deal. The move represents an effort by Instacart to adapt to shifts in grocery e-commerce and retail technology. [1][2]

DoorDash operates an online food ordering and delivery platform in the United States, where it maintains a 56 percent market share in food delivery and a 60 percent market share in convenience delivery. The platform was used by 450,000 merchants, 20 million consumers, and over one million couriers as of December 31, 2020. [5]

Instacart generated 29.4 billion dollars in gross transaction value across 263 million orders in 2022. The business model generates revenue from merchant commissions, customer fees, and advertising, while utilizing independent contractors for order fulfillment. [6]
