Lidl US has issued a recall for one lot of Gelatelli Coffee and Vanilla Gelato with Coffee Sauce and Cookie Pieces due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Food Safety News, Medical Daily, and NTD News all reported that routine product testing detected the bacteria. The recall affects gelato distributed between July 19, 2026, and October 15, 2026. [1][4][6]

According to Food Safety News and Medical Daily, the affected items were shipped to Lidl US retail locations across nine states and the District of Columbia. The states include Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. News12 Long Island and FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul also reported on the multi-state retail alert. [1][2][4][5]

Listeria is a genus of Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria that acts as an intracellular parasite in mammals. First isolated in 1924, the bacteria does not produce endospores and was named in honor of British antiseptic surgery pioneer Joseph Lister. Contamination risks remain a major focus for food safety regulatory authorities, as FTMQ Food reported earlier when Brooklyn distributor Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. recalled smoked seafood due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. [7][8][9]

Retailers and distributors handling the recalled product must immediately remove the designated batch from store shelves to mitigate consumer health risks. Medical Daily and cristinaiglesias.com reported that testing flagged the contamination, prompting urgent warnings for consumers who purchased the gelato to return or dispose of the item. [3][4]
